Market Insights
Florida Bahia squares trade firm as drought lingers
USDA's most recent SE Direct Hay Report has Premium Bahia small squares at $320/ton FOB and medium round bales at $120-$150/ton (weighted average $123.16). With pasture growth lagging across most of Florida and hurricane season opening June 1, barns should lock in hay reserves now rather than wait for first cutting.
Florida diesel at $5.41/gal layers cost on every inbound load
AAA's May 4 Florida averages: regular gas $4.338/gal, diesel $5.406/gal. Diesel is squarely in the national crude-driven run-up tied to Iran tensions. For Marion County and Wellington trainers shipping in Bahia from Central Florida or alfalfa from out of state, every load now carries a meaningful surcharge versus a month ago. Build the new diesel line into May boarding invoices.
WEC Ocala hosts the USEF Grand Prix Dressage National Championship May 13-17
USEF moved its 2026 Grand Prix Dressage National Championship to the Grand Arena at World Equestrian Center - Ocala, running May 13-17 alongside the WEC May Dressage CDI3*. It is one of seven FEI-rated WEC dressage events on the 2026 calendar. Marion County trainers and feed-and-tack vendors should expect a hard demand spike that week, with stalls in a 30-mile radius of WEC tightening from May 11.
