How Board and Stable Calculates Boarding Costs
Board and Stable pricing data is sourced directly from facility listings submitted by boarding facility owners and managers. Averages are calculated from active, verified listings that include a stated monthly rate. Data is updated continuously as new listings are added and existing listings are modified.
Data Sources
- All pricing data comes from facility owner-submitted listings on Board and Stable
- Listings must be marked active and include a monthly rate to be included in averages
- Facilities are not paid to be included; listing is free
How Averages Are Calculated
| Metric | Method |
|---|---|
| Average price | Mean of all active listings with stated rates |
| Low end | 10th percentile of listings in that state/type |
| High end | 90th percentile (outliers above 95th excluded) |
| City averages | Require minimum 3 listings to be published |
| State averages | Calculated from all cities combined |
Data Freshness
- State pages regenerate weekly
- City pages regenerate weekly or on listing change, whichever comes first
- All pages display the month and year of their last data update
Limitations
- Prices reflect stated listing rates, which may not include all negotiated discounts
- Cities with fewer than 3 listings are excluded from city-level comparisons
- Some rural areas have sparse coverage; state averages may skew toward more-represented metro areas
- Add-on service pricing (farrier coordination, blanketing, etc.) reflects national averages, not state-specific data
